Ski Slopes Above Thollon
Thollon Les Memises is about fifteen minutes drive up the mountain from Evian in the Chablais region of the Northern Haute Savoie. At about 1,000 metres and on the “balcony of Lake Leman” there are amazing views across the lake to Lausanne and the Swiss Jura mountains.
In Winter
The cable cars provide immediate access to the Memises mountains with over 50 kilometres of skiing in the winter.
Thollon les Memises is an excellent family ski resort, ideal for beginners and intermediates with a ski school and several ski hire shops in the village. It is only a short drive from neighbouring Bernex and about forty minutes from the Port du Soleil ski area, which includes Chatel, Morzine, Avoriaz and Les Gets. Guided ski tours areprovided around the Port du Soleil and into Switzerland, to the likes of Gstaad and Glacier 3000.
Chamonix and a number of famous Swiss ski resorts are also within easy reach, so there is a wide range of skiing possibilites for the more adventurous skier. With skiing between 1600 and 2000 metres, over £1m has been invested constructing a new run which allows you to ski right back down to the village. An area close to the cable car is used for sledging for the whole village.
In Summer
Thollon, and the historic spa town of Evian, also have a great deal to off er in the summer, e.g., sailing, water skiing, swimming, walking, mountain biking, para-gliding and golf; as well as restaurants, a theatre and casino. On the nearby Dranse river there’s canoeing, rafting and canyoning. Further afield, there are numerous places to visit around the lake including the beautiful medieval town of Yvoire, the 15th century Ripaille Castle, Montreaux, Chillon Castle and, of course, Geneva.
